A graphic chart shows the entire immigration process from arrival at Camp Kilmer to onward travel.

On 28 January 1957, Zoltán Klar, a Hungarian Jewish émigré physician and journalist, wrote a letter to the president of the American Jewish Committee in New York. There, he thanked Irving M. Engel for the AJC’s service not only to »the democratic way of life in America, but also to the cause of the great Hungarian Revolution and the ideal of freedom«. This expression of gratitude was prompted by a political crisis that had been unfolding for several weeks in the wake of the failed 1956 uprising in Hungary.
